She legally changed her surname aged 15 and chose a name she liked 'Portia' after the Shakespearean character of 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia thinks that this is the most risky decision she's made. She said that her inner struggle over her sexual orientation was the main reason she chose to decide. The career of Portia began in Hollywood through the romantic drama film "Sirens. The film featured her alongside Hugh Grant. She also appeared in several American film and TV series like Too Something, Nick Freno, the Licensed Teacher, Arrested Development, and, Better Off Ted. She was famous for her character as a lawyer from Boston, known as Nelle Porter, in a popular comedy on television called Ally McBeal. Her character was the main comedy relief.
